Diploma Program 900 Clock Hours Program Description This diploma program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as Medical Assistants in the health care industry. A Medical Assistant is a health care professional who is cross-trained in three different areas of patient care. The medical assistant participates in a wide variety of clinical duties encompassing clinical, laboratory, and administrative procedure. Business/Administrative duties include scheduling and receiving patients, obtaining patient information, maintaining medical records, maintaining supplies and equipment, and assuming responsibility for office care, insurance matters, office accounts, fees, and collections. Medically-related duties include assisting with examinations and treatments, taking health histories, performing certain diagnostic tests, carrying out laboratory procedures, and sterilizing instruments and equipment.. Upon graduation, the student will be qualified to obtain an entry level position as a Medical Assistant.

Career Opportunities Employment of Medical Assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014. As the health care industry expands because of technological advances in medicine and the growth and aging of the population, increasing utilization of Medical Assistants will further stimulate job growth. In fact, Medical Assistant is projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations over the 2007–2014 periods. In view of the preference of many health care employers for trained personnel, job prospects should be best for Medical Assistants with formal training or experience.
